Taking the Good News to the Streets
We need your help! In 2025 we want to help place 30,000 Gospels in the hands of people across the UK, through the local church. Will you help us by donating to the Great Gospel Giveaway today?
Clyde Thomas and a small team from Victory Church, Cwmbran, recently took to the streets with 1,000 Gospels. In just a few hours, nearly every Gospel was taken. Clyde shares how they experienced a remarkable openness to faith, with many connecting with the church for the very first time.
At our church, we’re always looking for new ways to take the good news of Jesus beyond the walls of our building. This summer, we had an incredible opportunity to do just that, and it was simpler and more powerful than we thought.
In August, a small team from our church took to the streets of Cwmbran with 1,000 copies of Mark’s Gospel, produced by Hope Together. The Gospels were designed in a magazine style, making them approachable and relevant for the people we met on the streets. We set up a simple table, stacked with the Gospels, and added an invitation to our latest Alpha course.
What happened next was amazing. People were genuinely interested in the Word of God. We were blown away by how many people took a copy of Mark’s Gospel—and how many stopped to chat, ask questions, and engage in meaningful conversations. The latest statistics are telling us that there is an increasing hunger for knowledge of God’s Word, and we saw that first-hand.
It was an important reminder that people ARE hungry to read the Bible.
One of the most powerful moments for us was seeing young people walking through town, stopping at our table, and taking a copy of the Gospel. Many of them then connected with our youth program. Others signed up to our Alpha course for the very first time.
Earlier this year, I heard Rachel Jordan-Wolf from Hope Together share a powerful message at a New Wine conference about taking the gospel beyond church walls. One thing she said really stuck with me: "We should litter the streets with the Word of God." That’s exactly what we did in August, and it was incredibly effective.
It didn’t require anything fancy—just a group of people from our church, a table, a box of Gospels, and a willingness to share the message of Jesus with those around us. It was simple, but it made a real difference.
If you're looking for a way to take the gospel into your community, I encourage you to try something like this. It’s been a powerful experience for us, and we’re already planning to do it again. Sometimes, all it takes is a simple step of faith to make a big impact.
