A Royal Visit 

King Charles III and The Queen Consort visited the end of our road today; we live just off Brick Lane here in Shoreditch. The crowds gathered in excitement, especially all the schoolchildren! It showed us the power and potential of The Royal Family to gather a diverse community together.

Today, Their Majesties walked through Brick Lane, which is widely regarded as the heart of the Bangladeshi community in the UK, to meet with local activists of the mid-twentieth-century anti-racism movement. The King and The Queen Consort visited places of interest in the neighbourhood and greeted so many people from different backgrounds who had gathered to see them.

I met a lovely lady who had flown in from Bangladesh that morning and explained how she didn’t want to miss the King’s visit. As we chatted she excitedly showed me pictures of when she had seen the late Queen. I explained that the charity I worked for had written books about the late Queen, and it was so good to share the moment. This was merely a microcosm of the excitement we will see around the Coronation this summer. It’s time to get planning and bring our communities together.

At the heart of the Coronation is our Christian faith, the Coronation being a Christian service of worship and dedication before God. Here at Hope Together, we’re producing a commemorative Mathew’s gospel, especially for this occasion. It will start with an introduction to the Coronation service and explain the Christian meaning and symbolism in the ceremony. Then it will lead into an introduction to the life of the King of Kings – the King for all people - Jesus Christ. It is such a fantastic opportunity, so don’t miss out.
