Give / Say / Invite
HOPE Together encourages churches to pray and to have something to give, something to say and an invitation to offer.
Do the people in our communities see our gift-giving God reflected in the life of their local church? The Bible shows God’s lavish generosity from the abundance of Eden to the riches of heaven poured out at a wedding at Cana, in Galilean fishermen’s nets and in fish and bread for 5,000 hungry men and their families.
Time is our most valuable resource. HOPE Together encourages churches to invest time in serving their village, town or city. That could be holding a community clean-up day; running a winter night-shelter or a summer barbecue; serving the night-time community as Street Pastors; providing for those in need with Food Banks; counselling people in debt; visiting lonely people; welcoming babies and toddlers with parents, grandparents or guardians to day-time activities; running children’s clubs, youth centres and senior citizens’ lunches. There are hundreds of ways in which churches can serve our communities.
HOPE Together provides ideas and produces low-cost gift-books and magazines for churches to give away. Check out these resources in the HOPE Shop.
Are you ready to give a reason for the hope you have (1 Peter 3:15)? Serving our communities unconditionally builds bridges and opens up conversations. We developed the Talking Jesus course to help Christians to speak appropriately, naturally and confidently about their faith with the people we meet.
Is your church guest-friendly? Do visitors feel welcome? Are there opportunities to respond to Jesus’ offer of a fresh start? We encourage churches to use the rhythm of mission to invite people in the community to guest services, special events, and discovery courses, which give an opportunity to find out more about following Jesus.
