HOPE in Uncertain Times

Dear {recipient.first_name}

The moment we get tired in the waiting, God’s Spirit is right alongside helping us along… He does our praying in and for us, making prayer out of our wordless sighs, our aching groans’ (Romans 8:26-28 The Message)

We are in an interesting season, living in the tension between hope and mystery. As I speak to leaders around the country, many are facing Zoom fatigue. Meetings in the past were spread apart, with journey time to process and pray through what was said. Now we have back-to-back Zoom calls, without the energy that comes from being in the room together. Alongside that sense of weariness, there is also huge encouragement from others, who are grabbing the opportunities God has given us to make Jesus known.

Journey Community Church in Northern Ireland is one of the churches using the Talking Jesus course online to help members become confident to talk about their faith. Churches across Coventry have prayer walked all 3,086 streets in the city during June as well as serving thousands of meals and providing practical support for people in lockdown. HOPE Bedford told us that the first person who walked into their town-centre HOPE Space got talking to a volunteer and has since become a Christian and is wanting to be baptised. In the past month more than 33,000 prisoners throughout England have received a Hope for All magazine in a gift bag, along with a Gideons Bible and other resources to help them explore faith during the 23-hour lockdown most of them are facing. Join with us praying that each of these initiatives will bear fruit and do let us know how we can pray for you.

for you to give away

We are thrilled that more than 170,000 copies of Hope for All magazine have been distributed by churches since March, even though it was published as the country went into lockdown. Churches have given away the 32-page magazine away with food parcels and invitations to online services. Thousands have been distributed in Britain’s prisons. Others were posted through letterboxes home to home as churches worked together in Thatcham, for example, to make sure that every home received a message of hope.

We will soon be starting work on a Christmas magazine, so we are now offering the
remaining stocks of the 2020 and 2019 undated Hope for All magazines FREE
 to anyone who is able to distribute them. Contact Sue Jennens to place your order by Friday 21 August 2020.
Helping people find hope in uncertain times

Give away our new booklet HOPE in Uncertain Times with an invitation to join your church online or in person. If you are hosting a HOPE Space or socially distanced Summer Fun Day, it’s a great gift to give. And because we know that some people can only be reached online, we’ve made an 8-minute film to tell the same story. A 90-second promotional version is also available here as above. Please share this video or download it to show in your online services. You can order copies of HOPE in Uncertain Times from the HOPE shop for as little as 30p a copy.
Free 10-part video series for any youth group

Libby Arnold, a local church youth leader from Lincoln, is enthusiastic about Mission Academy Live and the impact it has made on the youth group. You can watch her here (from 8:12mins to 10:24mins) on the Talking HOPE show. Find out more about Mission Academy Live here.
This 10-part series of innovative video-based sessions, empowers young people as missional disciples. They work together in small groups with a focus on peer-to-peer evangelism. Each session provides an understanding of today's contemporary context, with teaching, discussion, and testimony, all leading to a practical response. This practical discipleship tool encourages young people to be intentional, authentic, united and obedient to the call and command of Christ to be witnesses to show and share the love of God (Acts 1:8).

Our Talking HOPE shows are fortnightly in August – watch the first 10 shows on our YouTube channel @HopeTogetherUK. The next two shows are on Monday 10th August and Monday 24th August at 8pm on Facebook Live and Youtube. As they are online you can watch them at any time once they go live.
HOPE-Spaces-LogoHelping the spiritually curious find hope is a new website launched to help people to pray – maybe for the first time.

This is a virtual HOPE Space, where the spiritually curious can explore prayer. HOPE’s assistant director, Dr Rachel Jordan-Wolf, who inspired the project says, ‘As lockdown began and research showed that many non-Christians were exploring prayer, we looked online and found that most websites about prayer were for practising Christians. So we began to develop a virtual HOPE Space online, where people can post their prayers and explore ways to engage with God in prayer.’

Visit to see it for yourself. Use social media to invite friends, colleagues, and neighbours to explore prayer and add a link from your church website. is part of a larger HOPE Together initiative at where the spiritually curious can also read stories and watch videos about people who have found hope through faith in Jesus.
