HOPE-Together-Square-Medium   News Update
17 April 2020

RoyPastor Chrisha Sathiyaraj (in the video above) is one of many church leaders who are backing Prayer 2020. When we felt prompted to establish this monthly call to prayer, we had no idea how different life would be this year, but we are still believing that God has called us to pray for a significant harvest in 2020. We are hearing reports of large numbers of people joining online services and Googling how to pray. There is an increased interest in faith and many Christians are online sharing their faith in innovative ways as well as inviting friends to livestreamed church events. So spread the word through your church networks – pray at 20:20 (8.20pm) for 20 minutes that God will give many opportunities to speak about Christ (Colossians 4:3).

GetResizedImage.aspxTalking Jesus
Lichfield Diocese has offered the Talking Jesus resources to every parish to enable more and more people to talk about Jesus. Groups are able to watch the USB version online together on Zoom or Microsoft teams, then discuss it in break-out groups.

Copies of the USB/ DVD versions are available from the HOPE shop in English and Welsh, together with the course booklet. Let’s be prepared to make the most of every opportunity to make Jesus known.
Young people following Jesus in lockdown
If you haven't seen it yet, checkout the brand new Online Youth Evangelism Resource page, jam-packed full of excellent and tested resources to continue reaching young people in this season. For example, our good friends at LIGHT are hosting ‘Cabin Fever’ youth nights on Instagram & Facebook. These nights are full of fun, games, DJ sets, and a clear evangelistic message. They run on Mondays and Wednesdays at 7:30pm and on Fridays at 6:30pm. Over the last three weeks they have seen hundreds of young people making commitments to follow Jesus! This a great tool for you and your youth ministry.
vWNIC5uYPreston church vision realised
As a result of the Covid-19 lockdown, a Preston church has realised its vision to launch 17 church hubs throughout the city. HOPE practitioner and church leader Ron Farrington tells the story here. It's an amazing example of the local church serving its community, making Jesus known through words and action, working with the local council providing food for vulnerable, isolated and lonely people. Alongside the church hubs initiative, a livestreamed inter-church prayer meeting which involved just 30 people from Preston in more normal times, now attracts more than 200.
Yemi-videoHow to pray
Google searches for ‘prayer’ have risen worldwide in step with the surge of emerging cases of Covid-19, according to a European researcher. We are keen to provide local churches with resources to help make Jesus known. Look out for this short video from Yemi Adedeji, HOPE’s associate director, to help non-Christians learn about prayer. Please share it through your social media.

HOPE Spaces
Shop-WindowChurches in Bedfordshire are preparing for the lockdown to be lifted. Just before the lockdown began Stephen and Pip Elphick, co-chairs of HOPE in Bedfordshire, were given a shop to host a HOPE Space in the middle of town next to Costa Coffee and opposite Primark. They say, ‘We only got it just before lockdown so have not really been able to use it. However, we have it for £10 a week rates free for as long as we want it. So we believe God is going to use it greatly when things settle down. In the meantime, we have just put up our HOPE in Bedfordshire banner, a cross and some HOPE for All magazines in the window. The cross says “Hope has a name – Jesus”.’ They are also encouraging people try praying. Find out more about HOPE Spaces here and plan ahead for the lockdown to be lifted.
