News Update December 2018
‘The Word became flesh and blood, and moved into the neighbourhood.’ John 1:14 (The Message)

Journeys are at the heart of the Christmas story. Mary’s journey to see her cousin Elizabeth; Mary & Joseph’s journey to Bethlehem; Wise Men and shepherds making the journey to see Jesus; God’s journey to us – taking flesh and becoming one of us.

During the festive season many of us make journeys to see family and friends. One journey I’d invite you to take is the journey to your neighbours with something to say, a gift to give, and an invitation to offer. Christmas is the easiest time to invite neighbours and friends to Christmas services at church. The Christmas HOPE magazine is an ideal giveaway and a conversation-starter. Would you give away copies to your neighbours and invite them to your church’s Christmas events?
However you plan to spend Christmas, may God bless you and those you love with a peaceful Christmas and a hope-filled New Year.

Christmas deliverie
Churches across the country are delivering copies of the magazine Christmas Hope to homes together with invitations to Christmas church events.

Guests at the civic carol service in Letchworth will receive copies from the Salvation Army who are running the service. Letchworth’s Salvation Army Church will also be giving copies away at their Toy Service.
Churches are also giving it away at Beer & Carols evenings in pubs – at flash mob choir events in shopping centres – door to door with invitations to Christmas services and in goodie bags at Christmas fairs.

The 32-page magazine features the Duchess of Cambridge with Prince Louis; Leeds Rhinos rugby league player Jamie Jones-Buchanan; TV Presenter Simon Thomas, Adun, one of the 12 teenagers who was trapped in a cave in Thailand;  Karen Gibson who leads The Kingdom Choir, plus a child-friendly nativity story, competitions and much more.
It is not too late to order copies –
Talking Jesus training

A choir in Farnham has used the Talking Jesus videos at their practices in the run-up to Christmas as they prepare to sing in the local shopping centre and pub. The 6-week video-based course is ideal training to help Christians share their faith in natural and effective ways.

Churches that are part of the Redeemed Christian Church of God will be using the video series from the start of January. Goldhill Baptist Church in Chalfont St Peter and the Kings Churches in the Catford area are just two more of the churches preparing to use the course to help members talk about Jesus.

Find out more about the course here and order copies of the course pack and the course book at
Mission enthusiasts

Who is it in your church who often prays for the community – who suggests ways to reach out to make Jesus known – who recommends resources to help local people find out more about the Christian faith? It might be you – or perhaps there are others you know of in your church or other local churches.
We are bringing together these ‘mission enthusiasts’ on Saturday 26th January for a day of encouragement and networking to share ideas and pray for one another. To be included on the guest list, or to suggest others who should be invited, please contact the HOPE office by email – phone 01788 542782.
