Christmas Hope 2018 video
‘How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity!’
We know the Psalm – and it is wonderful to see the blessing God brings when his people work together. It is that unity which Jesus prayed for ‘that the world may believe’ (John 17:21). Over the 100 Days of Peace and Hope, and particularly as churches marked Remembrance, many villages, towns and cities have seen Christians working together in unity at the heart of Remembrance events.
For example in Lyndhurst in the New Forest, 10,000 copies of the Silence gift book were distributed by different churches at Remembrance events over the weekend with a message from church leaders to those organising the distribution: ‘Our prayer is that this booklet will prove an inspiration and blessing to your ministry as the church opens up to accept the influx of those seeking to attend the Remembrance Service.’
Thanks so much for getting involved in the 100 Days. We are praying with you that God will bring fresh hope to our country – not with political solutions, but with the love of Christ pouring out through churches to touch and transform lives.

Yours, with loads of appreciation

As part of Remembrance 100 churches in London are holding a Peace Award ceremony on 13th December. We would love to hear how churches in your area have marked Remembrance. Contact Sue Jennens to let us know.
Walk and Pray
When did you last take a walk through your village, town or city, praying for the people whose homes you pass and asking God to open hearts? It is a ministry focused on by our friends at Neighbourhood Prayer.

To help you pray systematically for your area, we have prepared a simple A3 guide to prayer which can be downloaded free here. One way to use this is to ask your local council planning department for an A3 map of your area to copy onto the back of the prayer guide using their Ordinance Survey Open Source licence. A local street map and the simple guide to prayer will help to mobilise prayer for your area.

The prayer map can be used together with the booklet How to Pray which develops the prayer map themes showing how we can pray in different ways. Prepare for Christmas by walking and praying around your neighbourhood using your prayer map.
Christmas in the rhythm of mission
Our 2018 Christmas HOPE magazine is designed to be a conversation-starter that you can give away home to home. Often people expect churches and charities to be asking for money at Christmas. Let’s surprise people with generosity. Christmas HOPE includes topical features to help start a conversation about why we celebrate Christmas and how people pray.

Prayer is one of the themes running throughout the magazine, which features the prayer the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge wrote for their wedding, the prayer prayed by one of the 12 teenagers trapped in a cave in Thailand earlier this year, and Leeds Rhinos’ Jamie Jones-Buchanan talking about praying at Rugby matches.

There are stories of hope, a nativity story to read, as well as prizes to win and features on former TV presenter, Simon Thomas and Karen Gibson from The Kingdom Choir who are currently making headlines in the news.

Christmas HOPE is also a great give-away for home to home carol singing, for flash mob choirs, sports stadium events or for Beer & Carols events in your local pub. Copies can be ordered here while stocks last.
New Year planning

Words and action to make Jesus known
We do appreciate our partnership with you in making Jesus known with words and action. Many churches are preparing to open their doors for winter night shelters. Foodbanks face particularly demanding times over the festive season and Street Pastors or Street Angels are kept busy with Christmas revellers. We pray regularly for you – please get in touch if we can support you in your village, town or city as you share the gospel with words and action.
Thanks so much for partnering with us to make Jesus known together with words and actions. Please let us know how we can serve you.

Love from the HOPE team
