News Update July 2018

‘How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity!’

It is so encouraging to hear how churches in Eastleigh and other areas are working together. In Hampshire a holiday-maker saw the HOPE logo on the Isle of Wight, in New Milton and Milford-on-Sea, and asked if it was the same hope! I visited a Shropshire church leaders breakfast recently and was thrilled at the impact of churches working together across the county using the HOPE brand. Read the Shropshire story below to find out how working together under the HOPE banner has made a difference. The HOPE logo is free to use.

We are praying that whatever you do in Jesus’ name this summer will be fruitful. Do let us know what you are doing so we can pray for you too.

Shropshire HOPE
Churches in Shropshire are taking a day each to pray for peace as part of Remembrance 100. The aim is to have 100 churches using the prayers from 100 Days of Peace and Hope from 4th August to 11th November. Shropshire HOPE is also encouraging churches across the area to give away copies of Silence at Remembrance events.

Rev Leslie Burke, who chairs Shropshire Hope, says the churches have been working ever more closely together since 2013 running joint Alpha courses, Try Praying, schools missions and praying together as part of Thy Kingdom Come for example. Groups of churches in the area also work closely together. The Party on the Green in one district has been held each year since 2015 by four churches working together to provide a free fun evening with food and bouncy castles. As a result some people have joined churches and new connections have developed with the wider community.
100-days-peaceRemembrance 100

On 4th August 1918 King George V led a National Day of Prayer; 100 days later the Great War ended. This year join 100 days of prayer for peace from 4th August to 11th November. Download the prayers and reflections in 100 Days of Peace and Hope free, together with logos, images, PowerPoint slides and further information at Help us spread the word in your network, and don’t forget to tell the person at your church who puts together the weekly news sheet or PowerPoint news slides.

Making Jesus known
Talking Jesus LogoSomething to say, something to give and an invitation to offer’ is HOPE’s check list for making Jesus known.

Something to say
In the last month we have launched Talking Jesus – The Course to equip Christians to talk naturally about their faith – having something to say. Find out more and watch the trailer at

Something to give
Last Monday the first copies of Silence were delivered from the printer and already 10,000 copies have been sold. Copies cost 25p when bought in packs of 200. Silence is designed to be ‘something to give’ at Remembrance. In one area, as well as giving copies to people attending Remembrance events, there are plans to give one each to local school children to take home to read with their parents. (Our more general gift book Who Do You Say I Am? is also available as a give-away.) Visit the HOPE shop at to place your order.

An invitation to offer
The invitation you offer will depend on what you plan in your area: a harvest supper using the Share A Meal packs; a Remembrance service; an Advent festival or a Christmas carol event… We’ve already started on resources to use at Christmas – details will be available in September.

Talking Jesus – The Course
This practical, video-based course includes six teaching sessions with short films to get people thinking before each week’s group session, plus inspirational, short testimonies to give real-life examples from people who are talking Jesus, and a course booklet for members of your small group. Get your copies here.
