News Update April 2018
The blessing of working together
God does amazing things through his church, when we work together in unity. Christians who work together in this way find they are blessed. As the psalmist said, ‘How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity … there the Lord bestows his blessing’ (Psalm 133).

This was demonstrated earlier this month when Bristol HOPE brought together 1400 volunteers from Tuesday 3rd – Saturday 7th April to take part in a city-wide mission. They worked together in 25 communities on 170 community projects, 25 events and 15 family fun days. More than 20 people became Christians and are being followed up by churches in Bristol. The volunteers included around 500 young people from Soul Survivor, serving alongside local churches and organisations to bless the local community, putting Jesus’ love into words and actions.

Churches in villages, towns and cities are gearing up to summer missions, fun days and events as part of HOPE 2018. HOPE Huddersfield launch last weekend. Contact Sue Jennens in the HOPE office to let her know your plans, and if you have a Facebook page or website, make sure we know so we can add it to the growing list on our HOPE practitioners’ page.

HOPE at Easter
COVER-Hope-at-Easter-coverIn the past month 274,000 copies of HOPE at Easter have been distributed by churches. Thanks to all who gave away tSue-Jennenshe magazine and to those who passed on feedback to Sue Jennens, left, (it’s not too late to complete the survey about how the magazine was received). Please pray that God will continue to work in the lives of those who read the magazines and the 2,000 people who have visited the Easter HOPE website.

HOPE Coventry Motofest

HOPE Coventry is working alongside Motofest – an event run by Jubilee Church Coventry to bless the city and celebrate its heritage. An estimated 150,000 people attend over two days. This year HOPE Coventry will run a HOPE Arena at the heart of the event, with free children’s activities, Messages of Hope (a white car for doodling on), and Healing on the Streets. Banners will proclaim 'HOPE Coventry – city churches working together' and Christian bands will perform on both afternoons. On the Sunday morning, the HOPE Arena will be the focal point for the united gathering of many churches from across Coventry to celebrate and pray for the city. Find out more here and watch the HOPE Coventry video here.
HOPE Peterborough
Regional Hubs are bringing Mission Academy Live groups together for evangelistic events in 2018. The Peterborough Hub held a Neon Glo Party in March with music, dancing, and crazy activities, with a guest DJ, glow bar, inflatables, football cage, performances, games, an inspirational message and more. More than 500 young people attended and 167 young people responded to Jesus; of those 66 were first time decisions. Find out more about Mission Academy Live  here. And download a guide to running a regional event here.

Read about a girl from St Peter’s Church in the Cambridgeshire village of Yaxley near Peterborough who has been praying for six of her friends and invited them to the Peterborough Hub Neon Glo Party.

Church grows after Christmas magazine distribution

Limbrick Wood Baptist Church had just 12 members, but they decided to use the Christmas HOPE magazine to go door-to-door inviting 5,000 people from their village of Tile Hill near Coventry to their Christmas service. Their efforts reaped an incredible response, with up to 150 people visiting for the first time. Their regular congregation is now 50-80 people and they are engaging with up to 250 people each week. Read more here. We are already planning a Christmas HOPE magazine for 2018. Please email Sue Jennens to indicate how many copies you might order, so we can print enough copies.
Invitation-logoA Weekend of Invitation
The weekend of invitation – Friday 15th to Sunday 17th June – offers every church the opportunity to do something intentionally invitational. You might choose to invite people to something that’s a regular part of your church activities, to a special guest event or to a guest service. The Sunday of the Weekend is Father’s Day – perfect for a guest service. Find out more here.

Remembrance 100

King George V joined with members of the Houses of Parliament on 4 August 1918 for a national day of prayer; 100 days later the war ended. This year, 4 August 2018 will be the first day of 100 days of prayer across the country and Commonwealth, running until Armistice Day, Sunday 11th November. We are calling this Remembrance100. HOPE is collating a book of 100 prayers and actions for peace with contributors from across the spectrum of denominations and ministries. We are also publishing a pocket-sized book called ‘Silence’ to give away at Remembrance events. Find out more here.

The Methodist Circuit on Guernsey distributed 280 copies of ’40 Stories of HOPE’. They used the books for their Circuit Lent study and preaching series, and the people who have read them are being encouraged to pass them on, once read, or to give new copies to someone else. The local prison chaplaincy also ordered 120 copies, running a course during Lent with prisoners. The book has also been used by a small community group, which includes ex-offenders. Rev Steve Dallin, one of the local clergy, said, ‘It has been great to see the excitement, hope and enthusiasm generated by these books.’

Only a few of the 30,000 copies printed are left, so we are considering a re-print as the book has been so well received and can be used at any time, not just during Lent.
These are exciting times – hence this bumper enews update. We are so encouraged to hear about so many different events and initiatives to make Jesus known. We are praying that God will produce fruit from all you do to make Jesus known.

Love from the HOPE team
